Custom Food Tutorial: Food Hand Gen

About This Tutorial

This tutorial is for those that already have their single serving recipe complete and are ready to add a custom utensil to it.
In this tutorial I will be creating a custom cookie for my sims, which needs a unique hand state as its utensil so that the cookie the sim eats looks the same. This tutorial will not go over adding your meshes or textures, you can see how to do this in my single and multi serving recipe tutorials. It is done the same way. This only goes over how to assign custom tuning for your custom hand food gen to work.

You can also read this guide formatted for Discord in the server! 🙂

Needed Programs

First, you need to make sure you are making a “Selective Clone”. If you are ever making anything custom, always click this option.

Next, check on “Show Debug Items” then in the search bar type in FoodHand this will show you all the food hand states in the game. Chose the one closest to your item, or if you are using a custom mesh just choose a base game one. Once you have selected the item you wish to use, click “Next” (edited)

Next, a window will pop up with different options. This is the reason we use “Selective Clone”, so we can choose what is included in our pacakge. You want to make sure everything is checked, including “Use 32-bit instances”

Note: Recipes, recipe related meshs, ingredients should always use 32-bit instances. This avoids any issues going forward.

Next, we need to open up our “Single Serving” recipe that needs the custom “Hand Food Gen” utensil.

Once it is open, navigate to the “Warehouse” tab in Sims 4 Studio. Scroll down till you find “Object Definition”, then on the right, scroll down till you see “Tuning“. Copy the tuning name (underlined in red in the photo below)

Note: Depending on what item you cloned as your hand gen, the tuning will be named different. In this tutorial I am using the chocolate chip cookie as my base.

Image
Next, go to “Tools” up at the top, then click “Export Tuning” Paste your tuning name in the search box, Then select the tuning, and click “Add to current package
Image

Now that the “Object Tuning” for the single serving has been added to the package we need to give it a unique name just like everything else we do that is Example: SrslySims:object_Food_CookieTutorial

Note: If you start your tuning always with YourName: S4S will automatically assign a unique tuning number to your custom instance name.

Click on the “Object Tuning” and then on the right, click on the “Data” tab. Here is where you can rename your object tuning. (edited)

Now, copy your new unique tuning name, and go back to the “Object Definition” Paste in your unique object tuning ID into the “Tuning” name line in the object definition.

Now your single serving recipe uses a unique custom tuning! Save your package down in the bottom right. (edited)

Now, go back to your custom hand state package. Go to the “Object Definition” tab, and sroll down on the right until you see “Instance” Copy this instance number.

Note: Because we did a “selective clone” in the beginning, we know that this is a custom stand alone item that does not override EA or other. We also know that the instance is in 32-bit, which is required for hand food states or phase interactions.

Go to “Tools” again, but this time, open up “Hash Generator” My instance ID was 0000000000A9F18D (hexadecimal) But I need to get its decimal value. So paste yourt instance in the “Hexadecimal” secton at the top, where you see 0000000000000000 After you pase, the “Decimal Value” up at the top will change. Copy this decimal value, in my case it is 11137421 (it will be different for you)
Image

Go back to your single serving package. Open up the “Object Tuning” and scroll down until you see “utensil” It is up toward to top of the tuning. Next, where the numbers are next to “Definitionpaste in your decimal value of your hand gen’s object definition.

Note: You can change the tunning comments in green next to your changed value. These items in green are not read by the game, but here for you to make notes of your changes. Personally I change them to whatever ID I used for, so here I would say “Tutorial Cookie Object Definition” or the tuning name.

You can now save your package and test it in game. Your sim should now use whatever custom hand food state you want to use.
